WWDC 2010 – My „predictions“

This is absolutely NOT worth reading if you’re looking for any kind of information! 🙂 It’s something like my own, personal bingo card for this year’s WWDC.

1. New iPhone (Probability: 99,9999999999%)
No secret. Steve Jobs will present the iPhone 3GS’s successor. Period. If not, those present will jump the stage and will make sure that he’ll need another liver after the presentation. Bonus points for me if Steve should decide to present the new iPhone as an encore, his famous „one more thing.

2. New Mac Mini (20%)
The Mac Mini, in its latest iteration, is already 230 days old. An upgrade should be right ahead. Thus, it’s very likely that Steve will present the new model. On the other hand: the new Mac Mini won’t be revolutionary in any kind of way. I don’t think that the new Mac Mini will be WWDC-Keynote-worthy. The new iMacs and the new MacBook and the new MacBookPros all were silently upgraded, too.

3. New Apple TV (75%)
Google just announced this Google-TV-Box-Thingy. Apple will certainly not leave that market to Google. I predict: there will be a new Apple TV with bigger HDD and iPhone OS – or at least a new, pimped version of FrontRow. Should it come with iPhone OS, it will certainly sport one of Apple’s own processors, most likely the A4 that also powers the iPad and, probably, the new iPhone.

4. iTunes X (25%)
Please, Apple, please – do update and REINVENT iTunes. I truly love iTunes. But it hast soooo many flaws, is so unbelievably slow, at times (ever tried watching a movie while syncing your iPhone/iPod/iPad?)… This really needs and update, with parts being reworked from the ground up.

5. iTunes in the cloud (80%)
This rumor has been around since Apple bought Lala.com. The iTunes store already has a nice feature: it „knows“ which Apps you already bought and offers you to download them again for free. This is not possible with music (even though Apple most certainly knows exactly which songs/movies/episodes you bought). iTunes Cloud will offer you to stream the content you bought to all of your devices, no matter where you are.
This would…
a) …allow you to not think about what to sync to your mobile device. Forgot anything? So what, just have that movie streamed to your iPhone!
b) …have a backup of all your music/movies/episodes. Well, okay, you know this as good as me: people don’t buy all their stuff at iTunes. Actually, people don’t buy all their stuff. However, this would be a neat feature for iTunes. It would dramatically minimize the size of my backups – if I had bought all of my stuff over at iTunes. 🙂
c)  …stop you from worrying about syncing. I own a desktop Mac and a MacBook and it is a royal pain in the a** to keep iTunes on both devices in sync. iTunes Cloud would deal with that problem and make that pain go away (again: if you bought all of your stuff at iTunes).

6. Free MobileMe (10%)
There are some rumors on this one… „they“ say, Apple will offer a free (but limited) version of MobileMe. „Apple“ and „free“ don’t go together all too good, right? 🙂

7. Updated MobileMe (74,367%)
Apple will update the MobileMe platform. Faster, more space, better pricing (at least if I’m right and the free version won’t come), capability of syncing your iPhoto Library across different devices (I know, that can already be done with iDisk – but what I want is a checkbox in the MobileMe settings on my Macs „sync iPhoto“) and so on… ?

8. New iMac, new Mac Pro, new MacBookAir (20%)
Read „2.“ again and replace „Mac Mini“ with „iMac“ and/or „Mac Pro“ and/or „MacBOok Air“. However, I’d say that the probability for a new Mac Pro is slightly higher. Since the last upgrade here lies more than 450 years back. Same goes for the MBA, whose latest iteration, too, is already more than a year old.

9. New Cinema Display(s) (80%)
The 30″ Cinema Display last was upgraded on…. wait for it…. April, 4th of 2007 (yes, no typo: 2007). Well, okay, Apple released the new 24″ LED Display in the meantime. But who wants a 24″ screen for watching movies? Especially at that price?! The LED Cinema Display costs you a whopping 900 bucks.

10. New iteration of OS X (51%)
It’s the WWDC. Normally THE place for Mac developers to be. This year it seems to be all about iPhone OS. Therefore, I’m not all too sure wether Jobs will present a new Mac OS – be it 10.7 or 11. I am, however, pretty sure that we’ll see 10.6.4 these days.

Well… those 10 points are all I can think of right now… 🙂

UPDATE: Whoa! I almost forgot two things!

11. Safari 5 (90%)
Safari in a new version. Better HTML5 integration/parsing ’n‘ stuff.

12. iPhone OS 4 for iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad and XCode 4 (100%)
Well… that one’s kind of obvious, isn’t it?
